There was a discussion on my favorite woodworking bulletin board
about applying glue over shellac. I conducted a simple test using
some cherry scrap and regular Titebond. The photo below shows the
pieces glued (the glue was allowed to dry clamped for 2 days) and my
favorite inlay hammer. |

I
made this cherry cradle for my new granddaughter. It was made
using the Woodsmith plans from PlansNow. I bought the kit
with
the pre-made spindles. I recommend that you chuck the
spindles up
in the drill press and sand/finish them there. I have a small
drill press lathe that works good for that.

Everyone
who has a 6" jointer eventually runs into the situation where
they need to joint a wider board. There are several different
techniques to do this with a planer. I've seen some very
fancy
sleds made for this job. I prefer a simpler
approach.
Here's my technique.
I make a sled using 1" thick plywood that has paper facing on both
sides and slides through the planer quite nicely. Unlike 3/4"
plywood, these slabs have yet to twist or warp. I'm 100%
confident that I have a stable, flat surface.
