I entered these cutting boards in the 2005 Braddock Heights / Middletown Community show. Not bad for my first time, eh? These are made from curly maple. |

Here's cradle #2 for my step-daughter. This is identical to the cherry cradle with a few minor exceptions. The cherry cradle was made to be disassembled and stored. The birch cradle isn't. Plus, it has strap eyes for the cradle bumpers to tie to and an bead on the spreader. Lastly, I made it 3" wider so it is now a standard 16x33.
I found birch difficult to work with. It is brittle which made it difficult to get nice clean edges. However, it finishes nice! I used three coats of Knipfer's Rude & Crude (R&C). |

My shaper didn't come with a solid fence. It has the traditional
split fence and the split fence can't be set very far away from the
cutter. On many occasions I found myself wanting a solid fence
where I needed the fence further away from the cutter than the split fence allowed. I looked at bandsaw fences but didn't find one that fit or that I cared for.
So... a new project! Not to mention I recently bought a Nikon CoolPix 8800 digital camera and needed an excuse to use it. |
